Privacy policy
Your church’s information stays your church’s.
This policy explains what Church TAK collects, why, and who can see it. Last updated September 27, 2026.
The short version
- Church TAK is software churches use to run their safety teams. The church that invites you decides what goes into its workspace and who can see it.
- We use information only to run Church TAK for your church. We don’t sell it, we don’t show ads, we don’t use it to train AI, and we don’t use facial recognition.
- The Church TAK app doesn’t track your location in the background. It shares your location only when you choose to.
- This website has no analytics, ads or tracking scripts.
Who we are
Church TAK is made by Oakhelm LLC (“we” or “us”), based in Georgia in the United States. For anything in this policy, email support@churchtak.com.
When a church uses Church TAK, the church decides what information to keep in its workspace. We handle that information on the church’s behalf to provide the service.
This website
churchtak.com doesn’t use analytics, advertising or tracking scripts, doesn’t set its own cookies, and loads its fonts from our own server. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes basic technical information such as IP addresses to deliver the site and protect it from abuse, and may set a strictly necessary security cookie to do that.
If you use the demo request form, we receive your name, church, email address and anything else you choose to include, such as a phone number, your role, your church’s size and a message, along with the country the request came from. It reaches us by email through Cloudflare. We use it to reply to you and keep it in our email.
The Church TAK app
This covers the web app at app.churchtak.com and the Church TAK iPhone app. Depending on how your church uses Church TAK, it holds:
- Your account: your name, email address and password. Passwords are handled by our sign-in service and are never stored in readable form.
- Your church membership: which churches you belong to, your role (volunteer, leader or admin), your teams, and the invitations or join requests that brought you in.
- Scheduling: services, posts, assignments, spots you take or give up, time away, and check-ins such as “I’m on post”, including any checklist completed to check in.
- Help requests and emergencies: the kind of request, how urgent it is, what you write, the place, any photo, who responded and when.
- Messages and photos: messages you send, photos you share, and a photo’s place on the campus map if you add one. Your church sets how long photos are kept.
- Church material: campus maps, site plans, floor plans, checklists and files your church uploads.
- Restricted records: records a church chooses to keep, such as trespass notices, which can include information and photos of people who don’t use Church TAK. Only people the church authorizes can see them.
- Devices and notifications: the tokens needed to send notifications to your phone or browser, and your notification settings. If you use Face ID to unlock Church TAK on iPhone, your iPhone handles Face ID and we never receive face data.
- TAK, if your church uses it: TAK device certificates, device identifiers and callsigns (which start as people’s names), positions reported by ATAK devices, the location of on-duty members who share one, messages exchanged with TAK devices, and emergency alerts and map reports, which include who sent them and what they wrote. Help markers sent to TAK don’t include names or anything people typed.
- Activity and security records: who changed what and when, and technical logs such as IP addresses that keep the service secure.
Location
Church TAK doesn’t track your location in the background. You share a location only when you choose to, for example when you check in to a post or ask for help. You can pick a place on the campus map instead of using your phone’s location.
If you let the iPhone app use your location, it reads it once, while you’re using the app, and shows it to you to review before anything is sent. People who see a location in Church TAK also see where it came from and how old it is.
If your church uses TAK, team members who carry ATAK share their position the way ATAK normally does, and Church TAK shows those positions on your church’s map for up to 24 hours. When an on-duty member shares a location in Church TAK, your church’s TAK users can see it while it’s fresh.
How we use information
- To run Church TAK for your church, including showing each person what their role allows.
- To send the emails you need, such as invitations, email verification and password resets. These come from noreply@churchtak.com.
- To deliver notifications, including Help requests and emergency alerts.
- To keep the service secure, prevent abuse and fix problems.
- To help when your church or you ask for support. Our staff can enter a church’s workspace only for support, for a limited time, with a recorded reason.
- To meet legal obligations.
We don’t sell personal information, use it for advertising, use it to train AI models, or use facial recognition.
Who we share it with
- Your church. People in your church see what their role allows. For example, leaders see Help requests and coverage.
- Service providers that help us run Church TAK: Amazon Web Services for hosting, storage and email delivery in the United States; Apple for iPhone notifications, the maps in the iPhone app and app distribution; your browser’s push service, such as Google, Mozilla or Apple, for web notifications; and Cloudflare for this website and our domain.
- Partner agencies, only if your church chooses. A church using Advanced TAK can connect with a partner agency’s TAK Server. By default the church only receives. Only the channels the church chooses to share are sent, and we pause or end sharing when the church asks.
- When the law requires it, or when we believe it’s needed to protect someone’s safety.
How long we keep it
We keep a church’s information while the church uses Church TAK. Photos follow the retention settings the church chooses. When a church stops using Church TAK, we delete its information within a reasonable time unless the law requires us to keep it. Deleted information can remain in backups until those backups are replaced. If your church uses TAK, our TAK Server also keeps its own record of your church’s TAK traffic, such as positions and chats.
If you ask us to delete your account, we’ll delete it and the personal information tied to it. Your church may keep records of what happened while you served, such as a Help request you made, because those records belong to the church.
Security
Church TAK uses encrypted connections, keeps each church’s information separate, and checks every permission on the server. Removing someone from a church ends their access to it, including any TAK certificates. No system is perfectly secure, and if we learn of a breach that affects you, we’ll tell your church and you as the law requires.
Your choices
- Your church admin can update or remove your membership in that church.
- You can ask us to see, correct or delete your information by emailing support@churchtak.com from the address on your account.
- You can turn notifications and location access off in your phone’s or browser’s settings.
Depending on where you live, you may have more rights under your state’s law. Email us and we’ll help.
Children
Church TAK is meant for adults serving on church teams. It isn’t directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly create accounts for them. A church may record information about a child as part of its own work, such as a lost child Help request. That information is part of the church’s records.
Changes and contact
If we change this policy, we’ll post the new version here with a new date, and tell churches about important changes.
